Raleigh, N.C., September 15, 2022 – Saint Mary’s School is excited to announce two students named as Semifinalists in the 68th annual National Merit® Scholarship Program by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation®.
Saint Mary’s School seniors Grace Sawyer '23 and Isabel Yates '23 are among the 16,000 Semifinalists in the 68th annual National Merit Scholarship Program.
“Our students are EXTRAORDINARY in many ways at Saint Mary’s, and this is an outstanding highlight of academic achievement,” shared Interim Head of School Adam Holden, Ed.D. “Congratulations to these students and best wishes to them as they continued to be BOLD and proceed through the rest of the competition.”
These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,250 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $28 million that will be offered next spring. To be considered for a Merit Scholarship® award, Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the Finalist level of the competition. About 95 percent of the Semifinalists are expected to attain Finalist standing, and about half of the Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar® title.
To compete for National Merit Scholarships, Semifinalists must advance to the Finalist level of the competition by fulfilling several additional requirements. A Semifinalist can become a Finalist and compete for a Merit Scholarship award in only one program year.
National Merit Scholarship winners of 2023 will be announced in four nationwide news releases beginning in April and concluding in July. These scholarship recipients will join nearly 368,000 other distinguished young people who have earned the Merit Scholar title.
